This three and a half minute video encapsulates the five-plus-hour process of erecting an 18-foot tall, 3,700 pound life sized replica of the Transformers Autobot Bumblebee. The giant maquette travels in three separate crates on a flatbed truck. It takes several forklifts, a lot of manpower, a few big wrenches and some heavy jiggling to put it together.
Shot in February 2009 at the Chicago Auto Show. While we were hired by Chevrolet to be there, this video was not part of the deal… we just had so much incredible footage of the autobot being built we couldn’t resist doing something with it. The video literally has about five endings.
